“Tell me a story of Christmas”

Gosh, it doesn’t seem like it’s been more than thirty years since Bill Vaughn died. I guess that’s one of the penalties of aging. Events and people remain vivid in the mind long after their passing and memory telescopes time.

Bill Vaughn was a Kansas City Star columnist for more than 30 years before his death at age 61 in 1977. We still see his aphorisms from the STARBEAMS columns from time to time. Many of them are available at various sites on the internet. One that fits the season is, “The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a family all wrapped up in each other.”

The Star doesn’t remember when it first published “A Story of Christmas” by Bill Vaughan but it started re-printing it in 1959 and the annual Christmas edition of the paper has the column in it. We’ve shared it with audiences in several Christmas speeches and thought we’d pass it along to you with the Missourinet’s best wishes for a safe and warm holiday season.
